Subject: Save PEG TV November 19, 2009 Please take swift action to save our community’s access to local television programming. On December 1st, Charter Communication plans to push our community’s PEG TV channels off their current locations and onto unused transmission bandwidth that is plagued with interference. Charter also plans to set up new PEG TV channels in the digital 990s where casual viewers and channels surfers won't find them, effectively cutting our viewership. Charter’s sole business purpose for these changes is to make room for new high definition channels – more national programming. The people of this community deserve better. We have allowed Charter to use publicly owned lands to string their cable and Charter enjoys a monopoly in our area. Rather than dictate a plan to the community, we are asking Charter to talk things over with the local PEG TV station operators and local governments that make community television possible. We need your help to find a fair and equitable solution. Please take a moment to express your support of PEG TV in a letter, e-mail or telephone call. Sample letters and telephone scripts are attached. We urge you to: 1. Ask Charter to join us in finding a better way to serve the Grand Traverse Community; 2. Ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor the Community Access Preservation Act (HR 3745); 3. Ask your fellow community members to take action as well. Our PEG TV community is thriving in Northwest Lower Michigan. Let’s do what we can to save it. Sincerely, Joe VanderMeulen, Executive Director Northwest Michigan Community Media Center/LIAA *For more information visit www.savePEGTV.org* |
